FAQ's: Welcome

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BIKEPACKING EXPERIENCES AND BESPOKE TRIPS?

The pre-planned dates are set routes with specific themes. They are designed to encourage and enable people to try bikepacking and have a fun and informative experience. You do not need any previous experience and we can provide nearly all your kit.

Bespoke trips are whatever you want them to be! They can be introduction trips or longer, epic adventures.

Contact me with your adventure ideas and we can turn them into a reality. Discounts can be offered for groups of 3 or more people.

DO I HAVE TO CAMP/CARRY MY KIT?

No! If you would rather hostel/bnb/hotel and/or not carry your kit between stops then simply book a bespoke guided trip and we can arrange all of that for you.

Accommodation & kit transfer is at an additional cost.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

- A fully planned and guided route
- Campsite dinner and breakfast
- Bikepacking bags, tent, sleep mat, cooking utensils and stove can be provided if needed
- Advice, tips and inspirational stories along the way!

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED?

- Sleeping Bag

- Transport to and from the start/finish location

- Bike Hire
- Cafe/pub/shop bought snack stops

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

We will provide a full and comprehensive list when you book - but in addition to the what's included/not included lists you need -

- Basic bike kit (spare inner tube as an absolute minimum)

- Comfortable clothes to cycle in
- Waterproofs

- Warm clothes for camp/sleeping

- Midge headnet and spray

- A small personal first aid kit

WHAT BIKE SHALL I BRING?

This is route specific! But if you are totally new to bikepacking then we would recommend a mountain bike as it is easier to handle for your first time riding with kit.

If you are a competent gravel cyclist then you should be fine (route dependant!) on a gravel bike.

Some of our routes are suitable for ebikes as we have specified charging points along the way. Some however are too remote for charging.

WILL THERE BE MIDGES/RAIN/SNOW/GALES?

Probably! We are at the mercy of the Scottish weather/critters!

You will be spending at least 36 hours outside so will probably experience some or all of the above!

In extreme adverse weather that is a danger to safety we will cancel and offer alternative dates.

I HAVE SOME SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS...

If you have any questions about what is possible or available to support your individual needs, then please do contact me.

This can include hiring of adapted or electric bikes, carefully selecting suitable routes and additional arrangements for luggage transfer etc if required.
